There are still a few slots left if you haven’t registered for this year’s Birdathon – field trips (May 2-4) and the special evening event at CCBER (Wed. April 30). Also we hope to see lots of folks at the Birdathon Wrap-up Picnic on Sunday, May 3 (1-3 pm) at Stove Grove Park. You can bring your own food if you prefer, but if you’d like to partake of the catered picnic food (sandwiches, salads, water and cookies), please order online now at http://birdathon2014.eventbrite.com. This link will also show you the events that still have space. Come enjoy the Birdathon!
Overview of 2014 Birdathon (April 26 – May 4)
SBAS is having its second annual Birdathon – a major fundraiser for our chapter!
There are variety of ways to participate: 7 field trips led by expert birders, a special evening event and lecture at CCBER, counting species with your team or on your own and the wrap-up picnic on the last day to hear everyone’s results. See the links below for more information on all the events.
Online registration is at: http://birdathon2014.eventbrite.com and we hope to see you there! Registration starts at 8 am on Tuesday, April 1, but you can check the events out in advance to see which you’d most like to do. (Note that the Eventbrite field trip detailed descriptions don’t appear to work on some mobile devices!)
The Birdathon is not just about guided field trips — it’s about birding and fund raising for our chapter. If an organized trip is not for you, put together your own team or go out by yourself and see what you can see! Compete with your friends to see how many species you can find!
Last year our many count participants came up with a wide range of activities. Matt Victoria and Sheri Lubin had quite an adventure on their “Big Day” and saw over 170 species! Team Tipsy Chicks, led by Liz Muraoka, raised over $700 for Santa Barbara Audubon during Birdathon week. Altogether we saw 202 species, raised over $7,000 for Santa Barbara Audubon, and had a lot of fun doing it!
