Friday Bird Walks for the Spring of 2017

Join Jack Sanford for some great birding and fun time on his Friday bird walks this Spring!

FBW-JackEvery 2nd and 4th Friday (usually) Jack hosts a casual and fun two hour walk at one of the south coast’s birding hot spots.  For beginners, this is a great opportunity to see the birds and find out where to bird. For the more experienced birder, here is you chance to share your knowledge and skills. Everyone is welcome. Cost is FREE!

San Jose Creek West: Friday, May 26, 2017, 8:30 am - 10:30 am

Field Trip: Ventura Duck Ponds / Wetlands

Sunday, February 12, 2017, 7:00 am - 1:00 pm (7:00 a.m. at car pool location)

These wetlands are adjacent to Point Mugu NAS and close to the ocean in Oxnard. We will bird this area on foot. It will be approximately a 3 mile walk and we must remain as a group. A special thanks to Peggy Kearns and Jeff Hanson for making the necessary arrangements for this trip.

North Campus Open Space: 2017 Trail Closures

Work on the North Campus Open Space (formerly Ocean Meadows Golf Course) is planned to begin in early 2017 with some tree removal in January. In early to mid-February, grading will get underway and fences will go up around the majority of the site, closing access to trails. Based upon the current schedule, UCSB anticipates that the trails will re-open in early January 2018. For more details, please check this North Campus Open Space Planning link.

Field Trip: Hollister Ranch

Hollister Ranch is a large privately held area of ranchetts north of Gaviota on the coast and into the foot hills. This pristine coastal area is not something to miss. Seize the day and and see for your self the wonders this area holds.
