Noozhawk: Parasite Linked to Mass Deaths of Pacific Coast Band-Tailed Pigeons in Santa Barbara County

BandTailPigeon.jpgThousands of Pacific Coast band-tailed pigeons have been found dead in Santa Barbara County, evidently from a parasite-borne disease that restricts their throat passages and causes them to die of starvation or suffocation. The public is being asked to help California wildlife officials by reporting sick or dying birds.
