Join SBAS board member and local wildlife biologist Ian Jackson on a walk exploring the UCSB Campus Lagoon, a premier birding hotspot supporting over 100 species annually. We’ll loop around the lagoon covering approximately 2 miles of mostly flat terrain through salt marsh, coastal sage scrub, sandy beach, and coastal dune habitat with a chance to observe species such as black-necked stilt and belted kingfisher among others. Ian will help participants identify birds by sight and sound while sharing insights into their ecology and life histories.
The walk will be followed by an optional drink/bite at Lama Dog/Sama Sama on upper State Street, where folks can connect, plan their next bird outing, and discuss more ways to get involved with Santa Barbara Audubon.
No sign-up necessary. Contact Ian Jackson with any questions at email hidden; JavaScript is required
Directions:
We’ll meet at UCSB Lot 6 where a parking pass is required. The “Night” pass is available for $4 after 5pm via the parking kiosk or the ParkMobile app and will cover the duration of our walk. Alternatively, you can park for free at the Goleta Beach lot and walk over to meet us at Lot 6.
