Feathered education ambassadors Max, Ivan, Kachina, Kanati, Kisa, Puku, and Athena will all be present to help them celebrate their “Big Year”.
EITS’ focus is on providing children, especially those who live in disadvantaged areas, opportunities to experience wildlife both in the classroom and in nature. Volunteers bring these feathered ambassadors to places such as schools, Boys & Girls Clubs, and after school programs. The children learn how to identify local birds by sight & sound, how to approach animals respectfully, and how they can assist with their future survival. The live birds’ presence inspires respect for wildlife, while their stories illustrate the impacts of human activities upon the birds and their habitats.
Since 1991, EITS Founder and Executive Director, Gabriele Drozdowski, has rescued and rehabilitated over 3,000 wild injured, orphaned, oiled and displaced birds, and, since 2000, has presented over a thousand live bird programs.
